Over the course of ten months this year, officers of the Doboj Police Administration have excluded a total of 2,710 drivers from traffic for driving under the influence of alcohol, said Goran Petrović, an inspector in the Police Department of the Doboj Administration.
Petrović said that compared to last year, there is an evident increase in drunken road users, stating that alcohol is one of the most common factors in traffic accidents with serious consequences.
He stated that from January to October, 56 drivers who refused to submit to alcohol testing were excluded.
Petrović pointed to the foreseen sanctions for driving under the influence of alcohol and pointed out that there is zero tolerance for professional drivers, beginners, as well as those who transport dangerous substances.
He said that for a determined amount of alcohol in the blood of 0.3 to 0.8 per thousand, a fine of 50 KM is prescribed, from 0.8 to 1.5 per thousand from 100 to 200 KM, with a protective measure of driving the vehicle and one to three penalty points.
“A fine of 400 KM, penalty points, and the imposition of a protective measure prohibiting the driving of a motor vehicle are foreseen for alcohol consumption of more than 1.5 parts per thousand,” Petrović told reporters.
Petrović noted that in case the driver refuses the breathalyzer test, a fine of 400 KM will be issued, along with mandatory exclusion from traffic, arrest, imposition of protective measures prohibiting driving and penalty points.
He called on citizens not to drive vehicles under the influence of alcohol and not to allow recklessness to endanger themselves and other road users, especially during the upcoming celebrations.
Petrović announced that police officers will continue with increased controls, with the priority of preserving the safety of all road users, writes Dobojski Info.
