Draper reached the victory after a big turnaround with a score of 4:6, 6:4, 7:6.
The tournament in the Californian desert is often called the “fifth Grand Slam” because of its high reputation and the strength of the competition.
Djokovic won this tournament five times, thus sharing the record with Roger Federer, but for ten years he has not managed to win the title again.

The first set hinted that the Serbian tennis player could make a good result. He had an almost perfect performance on the first serve, winning 14 of 15 points, while losing only three points throughout the set.
The key moment of the first set occurred in the tenth game when Djokovic broke Draper’s serve and took the lead in sets.
However, the beginning of the second set brought a twist. Draper immediately made a break and gained the advantage. Djokovic managed to fight back and equalize at 3:3, but the Briton broke his serve again in the ninth game and then won the set to equalize.
In the third set, fatigue obviously began to take its toll on Djokovic, who already seemed exhausted in the second game.

Draper had a great chance to end the match early, but in the tenth game he lost his serve just as he was serving for the win.
The match was eventually decided in a tie break. Draper had the upper hand, but Djokovic managed to threaten and restore suspense.
However, with the result 5:5, the Briton played several key points and reached the first victory in his career against Djokovic.
Djokovic now expects to perform at the Masters in Miami, where he will defend last year’s final.
