Security personnel at a synagogue near Detroit exchanged fire with at least one person on Thursday, the local sheriff said.
WDIV-TV reported that the truck crashed into the Temple Israel Synagogue in West Bloomfield.
Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said no arrests have been made at this time. Thick smoke could be seen from the roof of the synagogue, while footage from the scene showed dozens of police vehicles surrounding the building.
FBI Director Kash Patel said agents were on the ground because of what he called an “apparent vehicle hit and active shooter situation” at the synagogue.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said police were inspecting the building. About a dozen parents came to pick up their children from the early childhood education center located inside the complex, after receiving permission from the police.
