Federal Minister of Labor and Social Policy Adnan Delić met today with Regional Director of the International Labor Organization Claire Harasty and ILO State Coordinator in Bosnia and Herzegovina Edis Arifagić.
As reported from Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Policythe progress made in the past two years was discussed, with a special focus on the legislative processes in the field of work and employment, as well as the implementation of the reforms that the Ministry is implementing with the support of the ILO.
Minister Delić pointed out that cooperation with the ILO was crucial for improving the quality of legal solutions and strengthening the institutional framework of the labor market.
– In the past two years, we have made significant progress in the preparation and improvement of legal solutions in the field of work. The support of the ILO was extremely important, not only in the drafting phase of the laws, but also in their harmonization with international standards. For our part, we have completed everything that is within the competence of the Ministry and now we are waiting for the adoption and implementation of the prepared regulations – said Delić.
Special emphasis during the meeting was placed on improving the field of occupational safety, as one of the key segments of labor legislation.
– Safety at work must be a priority. It is not only a question of laws, but also of their application, supervision and strengthening of awareness about safety in the workplace. In that segment, we expect continued strong support from the ILO – the minister added.
Regional Director Harasty expressed her satisfaction with the cooperation so far and the achieved results, stressing that the ILO remains committed to supporting the institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
– Progress is visible, especially in strengthening the legislative framework and aligning it with international labor standards. The reactivation of the Economic and Social Council is also encouraging, because concrete effects for workers and employers are created through the cooperation of social partners – Harasty pointed out.
The interlocutors confirmed their commitment to the further improvement of cooperation, with a focus on the implementation of reforms and strengthening the standards of safety and health protection of workers in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
