The value of coffee imports in BiH in 2025 amounted to 234.6 million KM, which represents an increase of 31.9 percent compared to the previous year, while a slight increase in imports of 0.9 percent was observed in terms of quantity.
The export of coffee from BiH last year amounted to almost 24 million KM, which represents a growth of 36.4 percent compared to the previous year. Observed in terms of quantity, a drop of 3.2 percent was recorded, i.e. 45 tons less coffee was exported from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Generally speaking, there has been a particularly strong growth in the value of coffee trade, with minimal changes in quantities, both in exports and imports. Such trends are conditioned by the significant increase in coffee prices on the global market during the previous year, when the historical maximum was reached,” states the analysis of the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH, adding that a slight drop in prices is expected this year, but they will still remain above the long-term average.
In this sector last year, a deficit of 210.7 million KM was recorded, while the coverage of imports by exports was 10.2 percent.
The top five export markets (Slovenia, United States of America, Croatia, Germany, Austria) account for more than 86 percent of total exports, which indicates a high market concentration in these countries, primarily thanks to BiH. diaspora and consumers accustomed to traditional coffee preparation.
Imports of coffee record an extremely strong increase in value in 2025 with a minimal increase in quantity, which indicates the stability of the market and the fact that the increase in imports is solely a consequence of rising prices and not increased domestic consumption, i.e. an increase in processing capacity.
Imports are strongly concentrated in a few countries where Brazil, although in declining volume (-16.4 percent), is still the main supplier. India and Vietnam recorded a strong growth, both in terms of quantity and value, which indicates changes in the supply structure and probably higher for the adoption of the robusta variety, which is generally more affordable and represents the dominant variety originating from these Asian countries.
The average price of coffee on the world market at the beginning of the year was about 361 US cents per pound, which represents a drop of about 10 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Radio Sarajevo.
