CNN founder Ted Turner has died

Turner was a key figure in the development of modern electronic media. With the launch of CNN in 1980, he introduced the concept of continuous news broadcasting, which became a global standard and provided access to information in real time, especially during major events and crises.

During his career, he built a large media empire with numerous channels and production houses, leaving a strong impact on the industry. He also distinguished himself as a philanthropist, particularly through environmental and global health initiatives.

He founded the United Nations Foundation, advocated for nuclear disarmament and was one of the largest landowners in the US, participating in the restoration of the bison population. He also created the cartoon Captain Planet with the aim of educating children about the environment.

Originally from Ohio, he was also the owner of sports teams such as the Atlanta Braves and an internationally known sailor. In 1991, he was named Time magazine’s Person of the Year. He later sold his networks to Time Warner, but called CNN the greatest achievement of his life.

He suffered from Lewy body dementia since 2018, and at the beginning of 2025 he was hospitalized for mild pneumonia, after which he recovered.
