The Czech Football Association announced itself after the stormy reactions of the public caused by the behavior of some national team members after the 2026 World Cup qualification match against Gibraltar.
Although they celebrated with a convincing 6:0, the players refused to traditionally thank the fans, which caused indignation among the supporters and in the Federation itself.
In the official announcement, it was emphasized that the footballer’s reaction was completely inappropriate to the situation, and that the fans have every right to show their dissatisfaction with the national team’s games.
The Association said that they were disappointed with the actions of the national team members, stressing that no player is above the country they represent.
As a result, the executive board adopted disciplinary measures – captain Tomaš Souček will not wear the captain’s armband in the next match, and the team will be without bonuses for the duel with Gibraltar.
The money that was intended for bonuses will be redirected to humanitarian purposes.
The Czech Republic finished the qualification in second place in Group L, right behind Croatia, and will be among potential rivals Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with Slovakia, Wales and Poland, in the play-off.
The draw for the barrage is scheduled for tomorrow at 1 p.m.
