He was arrested about 100 kilometers east of Prague, in the town of Krásná. At the time of his arrest, he was dressed as a man and had a shaved head, and he briefly tried to escape. German police have been looking for him since August 2025, when he failed to show up for his sentence in Chemnitz.
The case attracted a lot of attention in Germany because it took advantage of a law on self-determination that allows changing one’s gender and name without going to court. Although the law was passed to make life easier for transgender people, this example started a discussion about possible abuses.
Doubts about his motives are further strengthened by the fact that he previously insulted LGBT people and interrupted the pride parade in Halle. Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt stated that this is an obvious misuse of the law.
Liebich was convicted in July 2023 of several crimes, including hate speech, and was also linked to the neo-Nazi group “Blood and Honour”. After the appeal was rejected, he changed his gender, but he did not report to serve his sentence, instead he ran away and provoked the police through social networks for months.
