The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina has scheduled a session for today at which the General Elections of 2026 are planned to be announced, which should be held on October 4.
In addition to the official determination of the election date, the CEC should also announce the deadlines for registration of political parties and candidates and what the ballots will look like.
Certain political parties have already announced their candidates for the BiH Presidency, and the first to come out with the name of the candidate is DF, which will nominate Slaven Kovačević as a member of the BiH Presidency from the Croatian nation. Then, the President of the SBiH, Semir Efendić, announced his candidacy for a member of the Presidency from among the Bosniak people.
After those two, the candidacy was announced by the current member of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, as well as the mayor of Bihac, Šuhret Fazlić. More SDA candidates are expected from among the Bosniak people.
The candidacy was also announced by the HDZ, and it is Darijana Filipović. Croatian opposition parties in Bosnia and Herzegovina also announced their candidate Zdenko Lučić.
No one from the RS has announced their candidacy yet, but it is quite certain that SNSD’s candidate could be Željka Cvijanović, current member of the BiH Presidency. On the other hand, the opposition in the RS is trying to find a common agreement on the candidates, but it turned out to be a difficult task for them. The SNSD is obviously waiting with its candidacy, in order to see in which direction the opposition will go.
By the way, many candidates have already started their promotion, even though the official election campaign does not start until September. Those who are now in power have an advantage over the opposition, given that they can advertise from their current position and get away with it.
