Professor Samra Turajlić, originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina, was appointed new director of the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute – one of the world’s leading centers for cancer research. Since September 2025. The leadership of the Institute was taken over and leading a team of over 700 scientists and clinicians.
Turajlić comes to this position after notable work on the Francis Crick Institute and as a consultant oncologist in The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. Her research on projects such as Tracerx melanoma and Renal and the management of the consortium provided significant insights into cancer biology and patient response to therapies, and contributed to the development of personalized treatments.

This appointment comes less than a year after the opening of the new, state-of-the-art Paterson Institute, where professor Turajlić will continue to lead transformation research of cancer.
