Bloody market attack in Pakistan: Seven dead, including police officers

It is the second fatal incident in that region in the last four days, reports Reuters.

The explosion occurred in a market in Sarai Naurang, not far from Banu district along the border with Afghanistan.

The attack could further increase tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, whose forces have already clashed this year.

Emergency crews and firefighters were immediately sent to the scene, the rescue services said. The seriously injured were transferred to hospitals in Banu, said police official Sajid Khan.

The director of the local hospital, Mohamed Ishak, stated that 37 injured people have been admitted so far, several of whom are in critical condition. Photos and videos from the scene of the explosion show destroyed storefronts and a heavily damaged vehicle.

An explosion caused by a Bomb has been reported near Railway Lines in Sarai Naurang, Lakki Marwat District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to Eyewitnesses, it was a suicide attack, however officials have NOT confirmed anything yet.

Let us remind you that on Saturday a suicide attack was carried out in the same province in which 15 police officers were killed. Pakistan attributed the responsibility to militants operating from Afghanistan and therefore sent a note of protest to Kabul. Taliban authorities said on Monday that they had no comment for now.

Islamabad has long accused Afghanistan of providing sanctuary to militant groups that plan attacks in Pakistan from Afghan territory. The Taliban reject the claims and say it is an internal security issue of Pakistan.
