Federal Minister of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry Kemal Hrnjić held a meeting with representatives of the Poultry Association of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where it was pointed out that BiH is currently the only country from the Balkans that has a license to export poultry meat to the European Union market, which represents a significant success of the domestic poultry sector and confirmation of the quality of production.
The topic of the meeting was also the appearance of salmonella in poultry, with special reference to the uneven practice of sampling and control by cantons. It was pointed out that in the Zenica-Doboj Canton, sampling is carried out at the level of 20 percent, while in the Sarajevo Canton, 100 percent of the samples are checked, which leads to unequal treatment of producers.
The representatives of the Association requested the standardization of practices in the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the introduction of incentives for co-financing damages caused by the appearance of salmonella.
Hrnjić expressed his willingness to consider the introduction of a co-financing model of damage caused by the appearance of salmonella, with the condition that the cantons participate in the financing with 50 percent, while the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry would provide the remaining 50 percent of funds.
During the meeting, data on incentives for poultry production in the period from 2022 to 2025 were presented, which show an increase in total allocations from 970 thousand KM in 2022 to 3.4 million KM in 2025. Representatives of the Poultry Association of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina presented a proposal to increase the amount of incentives from the current 25 to 30 pfennigs per beak.
“The Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry remains committed to continuing cooperation with the Poultry Association of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the aim of strengthening the competitiveness of the poultry sector, protecting producers and preserving high standards of food safety,” the ministry said.
The meeting was attended by the president of the Poultry Association of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mevludin Kahvedžić, the secretary of this association, Amer Alić, and the president of the Poultry Association of Sarajevo Canton and member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Poultry Association of the Federation of BiH, Salem Dupovac, it was announced by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry.
