For the first time in history, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Independence Day was marked in the Swedish Parliament, which is a significant step in recognition and strengthening the links between the two countries.
As Denis Begić pointed out, a representative in the Swedish Parliament and the President of the Group “Friends of the Western Balkans”, this event sends a clear message that Bosnia and Herzegovina has friends in Sweden.
“The Bosnian community is one of the best integrated in Sweden. We are proof that when it is done, when it is struggling and when it is not giving up – everything is possible!” Said Begić.
Today, three Social Democratic Representatives with Bosnian roots are sitting in the Swedish parliament – Azra Muranović, Dženan Čišija and Denis Begić, which shows how many Bosnians and Herzegovina managed to engage in the Swedish society.
According to research, young people who arrived in Sweden in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the former Yugoslavia during the 1990s today have the same employment rate as well as their peers born in Sweden.
“We build Sweden, but we don’t forget Bosnia and Herzegovina. We would like to see BiH as part of the European family, as a country of prosperity and stability,” Begic emphasized.
He also warned the challenges faced by Bosnians and Herzegovina in the homeland and diaspora, pointing out that there are those who want divisions, but that they will not follow them.
“Bosnia and Herzegovina will survive! We will continue the fight for it!” Said Begić, congratulating the Independence Day to all BiH citizens.
