Legendary English footballer David Beckham has released an emotional message after being knighted by His Majesty the King.
Beckham admitted that the day of awarding the order is one of the most special in his life.
“I can’t even describe how special this day is for me, a boy born in East London, receiving a knighthood from the King today. I am truly humbled and grateful for this honour,” Beckham wrote on his Instagram.
In his post, the former England captain recalled his journey from local club Ridgeway Rovers to the world’s biggest teams, including Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and LA Galaxy, highlighting the influence of coaches, teammates and fans who helped him get to this point.
“Playing for my country will always be the proudest moment of my career… representing England and being its captain was my dream since I was seven years old,” Beckham wrote, adding that football allowed him to travel and learn about children’s problems around the world from an early age.
The former football player especially thanked the humanitarian organizations with which he cooperated, including UNICEF, the Royal Foundation and the King’s Foundation, emphasizing how much it means to him to support children and inspire new generations. He also expressed his gratitude to the British Armed Forces.
Beckham also spoke emotionally about his family.
“All I’ve ever wanted is to make my family happy. My parents and grandparents, who have always been there for me and instilled in me the values of hard work and respect. My beautiful wife, who has been by my side for the past 28 years, my greatest support… without her I wouldn’t have the life I have. My children are our greatest joy and inspiration every day. Finally, Mom, Dad, Victoria and my children, can you believe it… I love you all and thank you from the bottom of my heart,” Beckham wrote.
