The check was presented to al-Ahmed by Zachery Dereniowski, a public figure on Instagram, who documented their encounter in a video shared on the platform.
According to Dereniowski, the money was collected collectively by 43,000 people from all over the world.
In the video, al-Ahmed is seen lying on a hospital bed with a cast on his left arm. During the incident, he was shot several times in the shoulder.
– I deserve it? – asked the 43-year-old when he was handed the check.
– When I save people, I do it from the heart – said al-Ahmed, recounting the attack that happened during the celebration of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.
