Witnesses state that the explosion occurred while the mosque was full of worshippers. According to the first unofficial reports, at least seven people died, but the authorities have not yet issued an official confirmation of the number of victims.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, it is known that militants in the area have previously carried out suicide attacks and attacks with improvised explosive devices, and their targets were often precisely mosques and other places with a large number of people.
Unconfirmed footage allegedly showing the aftermath of the explosion appeared on social media. They show people gathered in the market while the air is filled with dust particles.
