US President Donald Trump announced the blockade on Sunday after peace talks in Islamabad between the US and Iran failed to produce an agreement.
The blockade has caused additional uncertainty for shippers, oil companies and insurance companies. The current traffic represents a fraction of the more than 130 daily crossings before the start of the US-Israeli war against Iran on February 28, industry sources said on Tuesday.
“During the first 24 hours, not a single vessel passed through the US blockade,” the US Central Command announced on the social platform X, adding that six vessels obeyed orders from US forces to turn around and return to an Iranian port.
The three ships connected to Iran that passed through the strait did not sail to Iranian ports, and the blockade does not apply to them.
The tanker “Peace Gulf”, which sails under the flag of Panama, is sailing towards the port of Hamria in the United Arab Emirates, according to data from the London stock exchange LSEG.
