The best Bosnian tennis player Damir Džumhur failed to make a big surprise at the start of Roland Garros, although he was close to winning against the favored Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokin.
After more than four hours of fighting, the 23rd tennis player in the world won with a score of 3:2 in sets – 6:7, 6:3, 2:6, 7:5, 6:3.
The first set brought a great fight and safe serves from both sides. Džumhur missed two set-balls in the tenth game, but still managed to keep his concentration and after a dramatic tie-break took the lead with 1:0.
Bh. the tennis player opened the second set very well, making a break for a 2:0 lead, but Davidovich Fokina soon raised the level of play. The Spaniard turned the score around thanks to consecutive breaks and reached the tie in sets.
When it was expected that the momentum would completely shift to the side of the 21st seed of the tournament, Dzumhur showed quality again.
In the third set, he took away his opponent’s serve twice and safely reached a 2:1 lead.
The fourth set was crucial for the outcome of the match. After exchanging breaks at the opening, Džumhur made a new break at 4:3 and took a 5:3 lead, and then served for the win. However, the Spaniard managed to respond at the most important moment to win the decisive fifth set.
At the end of the match, the seventh game of the fifth set was decided when Davidovich Fokina once again took away BH’s serve. to the tennis player, after which he calmly brought the match to an end.
The Spanish tennis player will play in the second round against Argentinian Thiago Agustin Tirante, who previously eliminated compatriot Pablo Llamas Ruiz.
