The House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina unanimously adopted amendments to the Law on Salaries in the Institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, after they passed the House of Representatives.
It is necessary for this law to be adopted in the second reading in the House of Peoples in order for it to enter into force, and this is expected as early as today.
Amendments to this law would make it possible for the basis for calculating wages for employees in BiH institutions to be applied from January 1 of the current year, regardless of when the BiH budget for that year will be adopted.
Retroactively, upon the adoption of the budget for that year, employees would receive the difference between the salary they received before the adoption of the budget and the salary they should have received in the event that the base for that year was increased, which has not been the case so far.
This is the basic demand of the unions, which have been threatening protests and strikes since last year.
Its adoption in the House of Peoples was awaited for months. Today’s emergency session of the House of Peoples was attended by representatives of three representative trade unions – police agencies (SIPA, BiH Border Police, Directorate for the Coordination of Police Bodies), civil servants and employees of BiH institutions, and employees of the Indirect Taxation Administration of BiH.
Šefik Džaferović (SDA), the head of the Kuba delegation from among the Bosniak people, said that an amendment must be made to the adopted amendments to the Law on Salaries in order to prevent officials from entering the law, and that all of this can be completed quickly, writes Factor.
