At the session of the Executive Board of the Football Association of Serbia, held in the SC FSS in Stara Pazova, one of the most important decisions in the newer history of Serbian football.
The FSS Executive Board adopted a proposal for the change in the format of the Super League of Serbia, which implies a shortening from 16 to 12 clubs, with one transition season that will count 14 clubs.
Starting from the season 2027/28. In the elite rank of Serbian football, 12 teams play, which strives for increasing the quality of competition, better conditions for the development of clubs and players, as well as raising the competitiveness of our football as a whole.
In order for football clubs to have time to get used to a new system of competition, there will be a gradual transition to a new format, so the 2026/27 season will be transient and will be played with 14 clubs in the Super League.
“The decision to change the competition format is a step that Serbian soccer has long been in the elite rank, which is a broader state of the game, and the audience will provide better conditions for development. At the same time, we are convinced that our representatives in European competitions will be Achieve notable results thanks to this system. The decision on the change in the format of the competition on arrival in the FSS announced the Secretary General Branko Radujko as part of the great reform necessary for the improvement of football in Serbia.
