Bosnians and Herzegovinans in the United States of America marked the historic placing of the football team of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the 2026 World Cup in a special way.
A billboard with an emotional message was placed in Chicago.
The photo of the billboard was published by one of the fans, Mirsad Čaušević, pointing out that the billboard is located along the I-294 South highway near Irving Park.
As he stated, the goal of placing the billboard was to commemorate the great sporting success of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also to pay tribute to all the victims of aggression and genocide who did not get to see their homeland at the world’s largest football exhibition.
The billboard has a powerful message: “They tried to wipe us out. The world will see us,” which symbolizes the survival, memory and pride of a nation.
“We wanted to mark this great moment for our homeland, but also to pay tribute to all the victims of aggression and genocide who did not get to see Bosnia and Herzegovina on the world’s biggest sports stage. The message ‘They tried to wipe us out. The world will see us’ symbolizes survival, memory and pride. Despite all the suffering our people went through, Bosnia and Herzegovina survived and today is presented to the whole world. The billboard is dedicated to those who did not survive, but also to the generations that continue to preserve the truth, identity and love for the homeland. Thank you to everyone who supported,” Čaušević wrote.
This initiative caused numerous positive reactions among Bosnians and Herzegovinans around the world, who perceive the placement of the national team at the World Championship as one of the greatest sporting moments in the country’s history.
