A Russian attack could lead to the collapse of the inner radiation shelter at Ukraine’s inactive Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the plant’s director told AFP.
– If a missile or drone hits the shelter directly, or even lands nearby, for example Iskander, God forbid, it would cause a mini-earthquake in that area – said Sergiy Tarakanov, general director of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, in an interview conducted by AFP last week.
– No one can guarantee that the shelter will remain intact after that. That is the main threat – he added, referring to the steel-concrete sarcophagus that surrounds the reactor core.
