Hamas did not respond to a request for comment on the fate of Izza al-Din al-Hadad, the military commander in the Gaza Strip since Israel killed commander Mohamad Sinwar in May 2025, HINA reports.
Haddad is a senior Hamas official who has been the target of Israeli attacks since the US-backed October deal.
Medical sources in Gaza state that at least three people were killed and 20 were injured in airstrikes that targeted an apartment and a vehicle. It is not yet known whether al-Hadad is among the dead, writes Reuters.
A joint statement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Hadad was “responsible for the murders, kidnappings and suffering of thousands of Israeli civilians and soldiers.”
Israel has stepped up its attacks in Gaza in the past five weeks since Israeli-American airstrikes on Iran were halted, shifting its forces back to the devastated Palestinian enclave.
An agreement reached last October halted the worst fighting in Gaza after two years of war between Israel and Hamas. But progress toward a permanent solution, which includes the withdrawal of Israeli troops, disarmament of militants and reconstruction of the devastated enclave, has not been achieved. Israeli forces continue to occupy more than half of the territory of Gaza.
