Former Greek national team player Marios Oikonomou died in a car accident in Greece, a few months before his 34th birthday.
The Greek football public was shaken by the news of the death Marios Oikonomouformer national team player and former stopper who played for numerous domestic and foreign clubs during his career.
According to Greek media, Oikonomou died while riding a motorcycle after colliding with a car whose driver was trying to make a U-turn.
Despite the quick reaction of the emergency services, there was no way to save the former football player.
Made six appearances for Greece
Oikonomou is throughout his career played six times for the Greek national teamand he spent most of his football career playing as a stopper.
He started his career in DOG Gianniniafter which he moved to Italy, where he wore jerseys Cagliari, Bologna, of SPAL and Baria.
He was Marko Livaja’s teammate
He spent two seasons in to AEKwhere he was a teammate of a Croatian football player Mark Livaja.
During his career, he also performed for Sampdoria and FC Copenhagenand he concluded his professional career in 2024 in the jersey Panetolikosa.
