A man stole 40 roses from the window of a flower shop in the city of Yelizovo on Kamchatka, a peninsula in the Russian Far East and escaped, so he now faces up to four years in prison, according to Russian media.
He gave roses to a random passer-by whom he encountered while running away, the police said.
The police state that it was determined that the man was drunk when he passed by the flower shop.
– Seeing the exposed roses, he grabbed them and ran out into the street. However, he soon realized that he did not need the flowers he stole and gave them to a passer-by, the local police said in the theft report, as reported by the RIA Novosti agency.
Thanks to surveillance camera footage, the suspect, a 31-year-old local resident who was previously known to the police, was soon arrested.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against him and if he is convicted he faces up to four years in prison.
