A draft statement from the meeting said the US was providing intelligence and logistical support to the ceasefire in Ukraine.
“Coordinated military planning was carried out to prepare measures to preserve security in the air, at sea and on land, as well as to restore the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We have confirmed that these measures to guarantee security must be strictly implemented at the request of Ukraine after a reliable cessation of hostilities,” the draft document, which is subject to change, points out, reports Suspilne.
The meeting was attended by British Prime Minister Kerr Starmer, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš.
The meeting was organized by French President Emmanuel Macron.
The Elysee Palace previously announced that the participants of the meeting plan to agree on five points.
“First, there are the terms of the ceasefire, how it can be observed, monitored and verified without the deployment of troops, since we are talking about a contact line 1,400 kilometers long,” said a source from the French presidency.
He emphasized that the presence of soldiers on this line makes no sense either from a tactical or a strategic point of view.
“But above all, it is important that we collectively, Americans, Europeans and Ukrainians, clearly understand what exactly we should do in the event of a ceasefire violation,” the source specified.
The Elysée Palace adds that, in addition to security guarantees, long-term support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the deployment of multinational forces to protect Ukraine in the air, at sea and on land, as well as for the training and reconstruction of the army, “remain crucial”.
Today’s work continues at the technical and military level at the headquarters of the Coalition. The meeting aims to demonstrate the renewed unity of Europe, the United States and Ukraine in terms of long-term peace and security.
“We will also hold talks with the Americans, and this will be the first time that he will personally participate in a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing,” the source told Suspiljne.
