In the days before Christmas, Orbán advocated a truce between Russia and Ukraine, which Zelensky rejected at a summit of EU leaders he attended on December 19.
According to media reports, half a million people in the devastated Kharkiv region were left without heating, while interruptions in electricity supply were recorded in Kyiv.
In 2023, Ukraine changed the date of Christmas from January 7 – the date celebrated by the Russian Orthodox Church – to December 25 in order to distance itself from Russian religious and cultural influence.
