As part of the addiction prevention program and the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits, an educational workshop on the topic “Sports YES – addiction NO” was held in Karate club Široki, which was conducted by the association RESPECT with the financial support of the Federal Ministry of Education and Science.
The aim of the workshop was educate young athletes about the dangers of consuming psychoactive substances, but also to encourage them to recognize the value of sports, discipline and healthy habits as protective factors against the development of addiction.
Workshop leader Ljubo Ostojić pointed out that “sport is not only a physical activity, but also a school of life that teaches respect, self-control and responsibility”.
During the lecture, it was also shown short educational video entitled “Your Body Deserves Healthy Choices”, followed by a discussion in which the children had the opportunity to ask questions and express their opinions.
In the interactive part of the workshop, the participants were divided into three smaller groups, and each group had a task that encourages creativity and thinking about the importance of a healthy life.
Group 1: Made a poster with the title “Sports against addiction”, on which they showed the positive sides of sports and friendship through pictures, messages and slogans.
Group 2: She prepared a short scene in which they acted out a peer pressure situation — when friends offer cigarettes or alcohol. The task was to show how to say “no” in an assertive and polite way and stay consistent with your values.
Group 3: She made a “healthy list”, that is, a list of activities that help us feel good without psychoactive substances — for example. training, hanging out, music, walking, helping others and the like.
Workshop leader he praised the children’s creativity and sincerity, pointing out that they showed maturity and understanding of the topic through group work. The children discussed with each other why some young people reach for alcohol or cigarettes, and came to the conclusion that bad company and peer pressure can be risk factors.
The workshop took place in a very positive atmosphere, with the active participation of young athletes.
The participants showed an enviable level of interest and openness to the topic, and through discussion and group work they developed awareness about the importance of healthy choices and the harmfulness of psychoactive substances, with the conclusion that sport is one of the most effective forms of addiction prevention, because it provides young people with a sense of belonging, self-confidence and life structure.
