XI in Rare Visit Tibet: Invitation to "Interethnic unity and stability"

“Any attempt to divide the homeland and undermining the stability of the region was sentenced to ruin,” he said.

Soldiers and costumed dancers have paraded before Xi Jinping.

His visit comes in the middle of a debate on the heir of the 90-year-old Dalai Lama, who lives in exile in India.

In July, the religious leader said he would be appointed after his death, but without the involvement of the Chinese authorities, the position that Beijing resubby rejects.

Not mentioning the Dalai Lama, Xi Jinping called on Wednesday to “guidance” of Tibetan Buddhism towards the “adaptation to the Socialist Society.”
