Weber rejected reports of cooperation between the EPP and the AfD in the European Parliament and emphasized that the so-called “wall of fire” between the moderate parties and the AfD stands.
“AfD represents everything I stand against politically,” he added.
It was recently announced that members of the German Christian Democrats in the European Parliament cooperate with the AfD and other right-wing parties. Specifically, in a chat group and in personal contacts, they talked with AfD MPs about the legal project on migration. EVP is the largest group in the current convocation of the European Parliament.
Weber, however, rejected the thesis that the AfD is needed to form a majority.
“AfD has no influence either on our activities or on the formation of the majority. That’s how it was and it will remain,” he said, according to dpa.
