“No, I didn’t make any progress at all today.”
The two leaders talked to the hour early in the morning and focused on the Russian war against Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. The call was their sixth conversation since Trump took over the duty in January.
Cremical advisor Jurij Ušakov told reporters earlier during the day that Putin said that “Russia would continue to exercise their goals” in the war against Ukraine.
“Our president said that Russia would follow his goals, especially resolving the causes that led to the current situation, and would not give up on these goals,” Ušakov added.
The White House did not release the official minutes of the call and Trump did not give additional comments about the conversation. Since he took office, Trump tries to mediate in achieving truce between Ukraine and Russia, but without success. Despite the two circles of negotiations between Kiev and Moscow, Putin refused to spend a truce, referring to his maximum requirements.
Although Trump expressed frustration due to the continuation of Russian aggression, his administration did not introduce new sanctions or took steps to put pressure on Kremlin directly. Putin’s message arrived in the middle of enhanced Russian attacks by drones and missiles across Ukraine, in which the last weeks were killed hundreds of civilians.
Attacks have destroyed numerous infrastructure objects. Russia enhances the offensive despite repeated calls of Kiev, Washington and European leaders on unconditional truce.
Trump and Putin’s telephone conversation was held only after the US Department of Defense delivered to the delivery of key weapons of Ukraine, including counterparts of patriot and precisely cited ammunition. The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that the delay undermines the defense efforts and risks that Russia further escalate the conflict.
President Volodimir Zelenki, who addressed Denmark yesterday, said that direct talks between state leaders were needed to achieve peace.
He described Trump and Putin as “completely different people” and emphasized that decisions in Russia brings exclusively Putin.
