Trump then posted on the Truth Social social network:
“Based on discussions with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who requested that I postpone the devastating force that was supposed to be directed at Iran tonight, and on the condition that the Islamic Republic of Iran agrees to FULLY, IMMEDIATELY and SAFELY OPEN the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack on Iran for a period of two weeks. It will be a mutual Ceasefire!
The reason for this is that we have already met and exceeded all military objectives and are very close to a final agreement on long-term PEACE with Iran and PEACE in the Middle East. We have received a 10-point proposal from Iran and we believe that it represents a good basis for negotiations. Almost all of the disputed issues between the United States of America and Iran have already been agreed upon, but the two-week period will allow the agreement to be completed and formalized.
