The Pentagon expects to send two flights with migrants this weekend in Guantanamo Bay, which represents the first step in the Plans of the President Donald Trump to use this database of persons covered by its calculation with illegal immigration.
According to the two defense officials, the final details are still elaborated, but planes will be joined by another that is on the way to Peru, while the military seeks to implement the Trump’s orders on the deportation of thousands of people who are illegally in the country.
The military has so far performed eight flights – including four for Guatemala, three for Honduras and one for Ecuador – all the use of military aircraft. However, this is the first time that migrants will be sent to the base in Cuba, which is a unique set of legal and logistical challenges.
Trump issued an executive order on Wednesday, which orders the Pentagon and the Ministry of Internal Security to use the base for migrants. Defense officials have been busily working on a plan for accommodation for up to 30,000 people, which is far more than 780 prisoners who have stayed in the basis during the peak of the war against terrorism.
This army brings another gathering and emergency mission while at the same time they try to fill the separate Trump Order to send additional troops to the southern border.
