The Kremlin announced on Monday that the European counter-proposal to the US 28-point peace plan for Ukraine is not constructive and simply does not suit Moscow.
The release of a draft of the US plan last week deepened concerns in Ukraine and among European states over Washington’s acceptance of key Russian demands on NATO, territory and the order of a potential peace deal.
According to a copy of the document seen by Reuters, the European version significantly changes the meaning and weight of key points related to NATO and territorial issues.
– The European plan, at first glance… is completely non-constructive and does not suit us – the Kremlin foreign policy advisor Yuriy Ushakov told reporters in Moscow.
President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that US proposals for peace in Ukraine could serve as the basis for a resolution to the conflict, but warned that Russian forces would advance further if Kiev rejected the plan.
Ušakov pointed out that “not all, but many of the provisions of this (American) plan seem quite acceptable to him”. He added, however, that some points would require more detailed discussions.
