They are aimed primarily at road transport, which accounts for about 45% of global oil demand, according to a new agency report published on Friday.
IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol said the war is creating “the largest supply disruption in the history of the global oil market.” He added that the proposed measures represent “a series of urgent and concrete steps” that can be taken “to protect consumers from the consequences of this crisis”.
Among the main recommendations of the Agency, the encouragement to work from home wherever possible stands out. It is also proposed to reduce the speed limit on highways by at least 10 kilometers per hour.
Citizens are urged to use public transport more or to share transport with a private car. For large cities, it is proposed to introduce alternating driving with private cars.
It is also advised to avoid air travel in cases where there are alternative options. One of the recommendations also applies to households, which are suggested to switch to alternative cooking methods, such as the use of electric stoves.
