The Federal Ministry of the Interior is implementing the campaign “Fight against domestic violence and violence against women” under the slogan “Your expertise, their safety”.
Domestic violence and violence against women require the highest level of expertise and responsibility at every stage of action. The campaign was launched so that experts who have been working on cases of domestic violence and violence against women for years and who participated in the drafting of key regulations would transfer their practical knowledge and experience to police officers.
The campaign will last until the end of December 2025, and it is planned to hold three educational workshops in Ljubuško, Jajce and Cazin.
The campaign is primarily aimed at police officers of the cantonal ministries of the interior who act on reports of domestic violence and violence against women, because their role is irreplaceable – they are the first in the reaction chain when violence occurs, and their expertise and assessments can significantly contribute to the timely and adequate protection of victims.
The campaign is also intended for officers of centers for social work, as mandatory partners of police officers in risk assessment, providing protection to victims of violence and proper implementation of all measures in cases of domestic violence and violence against women.
The goal of the campaign is to strengthen the capacities of police officers through education, guidelines and practical knowledge, in order to act adequately on reported cases of domestic violence and violence against women, and to improve mutual cooperation and ensure that every victim receives timely, accurate and professional protection through the actions and work of police officers. The focus is clear: increase safety, reduce risk and improve performance.
The campaign is carried out on the basis of the Law on the Protection of Domestic Violence and Violence against Women, the Rulebook on the Method of Implementing Protective Measures for Perpetrators of Domestic Violence and Violence against Women, which are under the jurisdiction of police authorities, and the Rulebook on the Procedure and Method of Conducting Risk Assessment for Victims of Domestic Violence and Violence against Women.
The mission of the campaign is to strengthen the professional safety of those who protect others. When police officers have clear protocols, quality tools and continuous education, the victim receives the highest level of protection.
Professional, informed and empathetic treatment directly reduces the risk of repeated violence. Police officers are the first to act in cases of domestic violence and violence against women, and their actions and adequate actions significantly affect the work of other entities that act in cases of domestic violence and violence against women, therefore it is necessary to continuously work on the professional development and training of police officers.
