At least 86 children have died this year in Bangladesh from measles, while another 426 children are suspected of having the disease, local health officials said today.
The number of smallpox cases has risen sharply in recent months, and hospitals are overwhelmed with patients, further straining an already weakened health system, especially in rural areas and densely populated poor urban areas, Reuters reported, citing Tanjug.
According to the General Health Services Administration of Bangladesh, 62,507 suspected cases of measles were registered across the country between March 15 and May 23, while 8,494 infections were laboratory-confirmed.
