The area around the island of Samoa in the Pacific Ocean was hit by a strong earthquake 6.6 degrees per Richter scale, the European-Mediterranean seismological institute said.
The epicenter of the earthquake was recorded in the open sea, at a depth of 314 kilometers, about 175 kilometers away from the nearest settlement.
There is currently no report on possible injured or material harm.
Also, a warning is not issued for the danger of tsunami.
