The logistics base of the peacekeeping forces in the city of Kadugli, in the central part of the Kordofan region, was hit, Guterres said in a statement.
Eight peacekeepers were wounded in the same attack.
All the dead are Bangladeshi nationals serving in the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).
“Attacks targeting United Nations peacekeepers may constitute a war crime under international law,” Guterres said, demanding that those responsible for this unjustified attack be brought to justice.
The Sudanese army blamed the attack on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group that has been waging a war with the army for more than two years for control of the country.
The representatives of the RSF have not yet announced themselves.
“The attack clearly demonstrates the subversive approach of the rebel militias and those behind them,” the Sudanese military said.
The military released a video on social media showing thick black smoke rising above the United Nations facility.
The oil-rich Abyei region is a disputed area between Sudan and South Sudan, and the United Nations mission has been deployed there since 2011, when South Sudan gained independence.
Guterres called for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan and the launch of a comprehensive and inclusive political process that would lead the country to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
