Last weekend, the World Championship in spin fishing was held in Italy, where the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina achieved a historic result by taking a high 4th place.
Although the medal was narrowly missed, he has this success special significance for Široki Brijeggiven that the key roles in the national team were played by local boys.
A dramatic fight for the world top
They are our national team members showed incredible combativeness and knowledge. The team finished in third place on the first day of the competition, while they opened the second day even stronger. After two rounds on the second day, the BiH national team was in 2nd place in the world, and the podium seemed secure.
Unfortunately, nuances and sporting luck decide in fishing. The fatal fourth round in three sectors dropped the team to the final 4th place. How even the fight was, is best confirmed by the fact that our national team just one fish short of a bronze medal.

Nikola-Franjo Zovko he achieved a phenomenal individual success, taking 7th place in the world in the competition of the world’s best anglers.
Ante Brekalo he was an indispensable part of the competitive team, contributing to the team’s stability and top result. Ivan Lovrić he played a key role in logistics, monitoring the competition and helping in two sectors, which was crucial for the team’s tactical decisions.
In addition to them, Đorđe Lubur also defended the colors of Bosnia and Herzegovina (excellent 6th place individually), Dino Mecavica, and linemen Adnan Milanović, Slavan Petrović, Mladen Govedarica and Igor Krajišnik.
Thanks to the City and the County
Such a top result and going to the world fair they would not be possible without the support of the local community. The members of the national team hereby send a big thank you to the City of Široki Brijeg and the Government of the West Herzegovina County, who recognized the importance of this sport and helped our boys to represent their city and people on the world stage.
Although there remains a small regret for the medal that literally slipped off the hook, fourth place in the world and two competitors in the TOP 10 are proof that it is grown in Široki Brijeg and Herzegovina superb sport fishing which belongs to the very world elite.
