At least 20 people were injured in the shooting on campus, near the Barus and Holley buildings and Macmillan Hall, according to radio communications from Providence firefighters. In an update posted at 5:27 p.m., the Department of Public Safety reported shots fired near Governor Street and said police were dispatched to the scene.
Footage obtained by The Herald shows multiple police officers on campus, as well as multiple emergency vehicles on surrounding roads. Additional footage shows police helping people lying on the ground near the Science Library.
Several buildings on campus were placed on a complete lockdown.

The university immediately issued a warning to students after the report, ordering them to lock their doors, silence their cell phones and stay in a safe and hidden place until further notice.

The Providence Police Department took to social media to confirm the increased presence of its forces.
“There is currently a large Providence Police and Fire Department presence on Hope Street near Brown University,” the post said.
“Please be careful and avoid this area until further notice.”
