In the 15th round of the Premier League, Liverpool played a 3:3 away game against Leeds United.
It was the third game in a row in which Mohamed Salah was among the reserves and the second among those three in which he did not enter the game at all.
The Egyptian Liverpool legend therefore came out fiercely in front of the media after the game in Leeds.
“This is unacceptable to me. I don’t know why this is happening to me. I don’t understand it. I’ve done so much for this club. I don’t have to fight for my position every day, I deserved it. The way I see this situation, they threw Mo under the bus because Mo is a problem in the team. I don’t think I’m a problem,” said Salah and continued:
“I had a good relationship with the coach. Now suddenly we don’t have any relationship anymore. I don’t know why. It seems to me that someone doesn’t want me in the club. It’s clear to me that someone wants to put all the blame on me. The club promised me a lot during the summer, and now I’ve already been on the bench for three games. All I can say is – fulfill your promises.”
Salah leaves for the Africa Cup of Nations in seven days, and the last game he will be able to play in Liverpool before that is the one at Anfield against Brighton next Saturday. When asked what the future holds, Salah replied:
“We’ll see. I’ll enjoy the game even if I don’t play. We’ll see what happens, it’s at Anfield, I’ll say goodbye to the fans, go to the Nations Cup… Because I don’t know what’s going to happen while I’m there anyway.”
After Salah had 29 goals and 18 assists in 38 games last season in Liverpool’s campaign for the title, this year he has four goals and two assists in 13 appearances. Arne Slot’s team is only in eighth place with 23 points, ten less than the leading Arsenal.
