Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vasiliy Nebenzya said on Tuesday that Moscow has information that Ukraine plans to launch military drones from Latvia and other Baltic states, warning that NATO membership will not protect those countries from a possible Russian response.
Speaking during a UN Security Council session on the security situation in Ukraine, Nebenzja claimed that Kyiv had already deployed Ukrainian drone control units in Latvia.
Latvia’s representative in the Security Council, Sanita Pavluta-Deslandes, immediately rejected these claims, calling them “pure fiction”.
The deputy US ambassador to the UN, Tammy Bruce, warned that the United Nations “is not a place for threats to the members of the Security Council”, and said that the United States of America will continue to respect all its obligations towards the NATO alliance.
