The RS National Assembly adopted the Law on Health Protection from tobacco and other smoking products, which is introducing significantly stricter control measures and restrictions on the consumption of tobacco and electronic cigarettes.
The new legal framework is in line with the regulations that already apply in the Federation of BiH, and its goal is to strengthen public health and the protection of particular vulnerable groups, such as young people.
The draft law envisages the ban on the sale of electronic cigarettes, wapes and snubs to minors, as well as a complete ban on smoking in enclosed public spaces, except in specially marked rooms separated and have separate ventilation. Also, the control of the measures and introduces clear rules when it comes to advertising and labeling of tobacco products.
RS Health Minister, Alen Šeranić, pointed out that the essence of this law is raising awareness and changes in habits regarding tobacco consumption, especially among young people.
“There are three basic objectives of this Law – protection of the health of the population, the ban on the sale of tobacco products to young people and regulating advertising and packaging of these products,” Sheranic said.
He further warned of the high economic losses that the Tobacco consumption causes RS – 223 million KM of direct costs, 20 million KM due to mortality and 48 million KMs, as many as 290 million KM per year.
In addition to this draft, MPs have adopted the Draft Law on Preschool and Education at the same session, the Draft Law on Protection of Consumers in the RS, and the Draft Law on Major Magitation. The session will be resumed on Tuesday, 8. July 2025. year, starting at 10 o’clock, writes Radio Sarajevo.
