According to the Portuguese media, all employees and associates of Al Nassr were paid back wages in the last hours, which was one of the key reasons for Ronaldo’s dissatisfaction and his decision to temporarily refuse to play for the club.
According to NOW, Cristiano Ronaldo and the management of Al Nassr held a high-level meeting with the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the Saudi state investment fund that invests in the league’s leading clubs. At that meeting, PIF settled all debts to players and employees and paid additional funds so that the club could cover expenses until the end of the season.
Apart from the disagreements with the PIF, which were related to, as Ronaldo believes, the unequal treatment of the leading Saudi clubs – especially compared to Al Hilal – the Portuguese ace in his protest put a special emphasis on social issues. The captain of the Portuguese national team insisted that the problem of salary delays for the club’s employees be urgently resolved, which, according to the media, confirmed his true human greatness.
Jose Semedo’s authority at the club has also been restored, meaning the main issues that led to Ronaldo’s displeasure have been resolved. The only open question remains concerns about winter reinforcements, especially those brought in by Al Hilal, the current leader of the Saudi league.
Cristiano Ronaldo returns to the competition for Al Nassr and is expected to start the match against Al Fateh on Saturday, in the 22nd round of the Saudi Championship.
Al Nassr play Turkmenistan’s Arkadag in the round of 16 of the AFC Champions League 2 on Thursday but, as in previous matches in the competition, the Portuguese captain is expected to be physically spared.
