In Bosnia and Herzegovina, there is an increase in respiratory infections, and health institutions in both entities are intensively monitoring the movement of COVID-19, influenza and other viruses. In the last 24 hours, Republika Srpska has confirmed six new cases of coronavirus, while in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a new season of monitoring respiratory viruses for the period 2025/2026 has begun.
RS: Six new infections, two deaths
According to the data of the Institute of Public Health of the RS, 36 patients were tested at the University Clinical Center of the Republic of Srpska and the “Sveti Vračevi” hospital in Bijeljina, and COVID-19 was confirmed in six people – two men and four women of middle and elderly age.
The Institute was also notified of two deaths in persons with previously confirmed corona virus.
Three patients are currently hospitalized in RS hospitals.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 122,306 cases of infection have been confirmed in the RS, while 6,736 people have died. A total of 466,874 citizens were tested.
FBiH: Increase in cases of COVID-19
In the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, from the 40th week of this year, a new season of surveillance of respiratory viruses, including influenza, SARS-CoV-2 and RSV, began.
dr. Rozalija Nedić, a specialist epidemiologist from the FBiH Institute of Public Health, pointed out that since the beginning of September 2025, an increase in cases of COVID-19 has been recorded through routine surveillance, which indicates an increased activity of respiratory infections in the coming weeks.
“Given the expected greater activity of respiratory viruses in the coming period, the population is recommended to adhere to general hygienic-epidemiological measures such as regular hand washing, airing rooms, avoiding large gatherings and staying at home in case of flu-like symptoms.
Also, vaccination against influenza is recommended because it represents the most effective measure of protection against more severe forms of illness and complications,” said Dr. Nedic, writes Radio Sarajevo.
