The NBA recorded the highest viewership on Christmas in the last 15 years with over 47 million viewers.

More than 47 million people in the United States watched at least part of the five-game Christmas special broadcast by ABC and ESPN, a 45% increase over the previous year, the North American professional league announced.

It was the most watched “Christmas in the NBA” in the last 15 years. The average viewership per game was 5.5 million, and the NY Knicks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers game was the most watched with 6.4 million viewers, making this the most watched Christmas Day game in NBA history.

The tradition was started in 1947, and since 2008, five matches have been played on Christmas Day, spread from afternoon to early morning European time.

The NBA has achieved a record in the digital world as well. The League reached 1.6 billion views of its content, which represents an increase of 23 percent compared to the previous record Christmas 2014.
