Russian President Vladimir Putin has lashed out at European political leaders, calling them “little pigs” who, he claims, want to profit from the weakening and eventual collapse of Russia.
Speaking on the eve of an important meeting of European Union leaders, where additional funding for Ukraine should be discussed, Putin said that, in his opinion, European countries are trying to compensate for losses from earlier historical periods and at the same time “take revenge” on Moscow.
At the annual meeting of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Russian president accused former US President Joe Biden of knowingly provoking the war in Ukraine, adding that, as he said, European leaders followed US policy without reservation.
Since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Moscow has faced heavy economic sanctions and political isolation from the West. Nevertheless, Putin claims that Russia has demonstrated economic, financial and military resilience, as well as stability within society.
Although he stated that Russia remains open to dialogue with Europe, he pointed out that he does not see the possibility of serious talks with the current European political leaders.
Despite occasional signals of readiness to negotiate, the Kremlin continued military activities and rejected peace initiatives that entail withdrawal from occupied territories.
Ukraine and its allies, on the other hand, accuse Moscow of using the talks as political pressure rather than a sincere attempt to resolve the conflict.
