The Union of Independent Police Unions of the Federation of BiH, the representative union for public order and security activities in the territory of the Federation of BiH, announced on the occasion of the established Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Police Officers of the FBiH.
In a press release, the trade union pointed out that in the past period it has repeatedly addressed the FBiH Government and the relevant Ministry of Internal Affairs with a request for prior consultations, in the spirit of the proclaimed social dialogue, in order to prepare a high-quality law that satisfies the interests of the social community, as well as all police officers.
“Unfortunately, the current authorities completely ignored the legitimate union demands, and under the ‘veil of secrecy’ made the relevant proposal and at the 61st session of the FBiH Government established the Draft Law, and that point of the agenda was not mentioned in the subsequently published Statement on the work of the Government, which completely contaminates the true intentions of the proponents,” the statement reads.
The trade union warns that the draft law will negatively affect the labor-legal status of police officers in the cantonal ministries of internal affairs and the Judicial Police of FBiH, and publicly expresses its opposition to the proposed law.
“We call on the leadership of both houses of the FBiH Parliament not to put this bill on the agenda of their sessions, because it was determined without consultation with the Economic and Social Council of FBiH and without the participation of representative trade unions. We also call on all representatives in the FBiH Parliament not to vote for such a bill if it is on the agenda,” the Union states.
The union added that it will inform the leadership of the FBiH Parliament, all representatives, as well as relevant domestic and international authorities and institutions in detail about the reasons for opposition, stressing that it is a law that is not in the general interest of society and the police profession, but only in the interest of individuals and certain policies.
