Governor of Istanbul Davut Gul said that according to initial estimates, a total of nine people are trapped under the ruins, and that there is currently no need to evacuate the surrounding buildings, reports TRT Haber.
“In the coming period, the Agency for Emergency Situations and Disasters will monitor the situation and if there are buildings that need to be evacuated, they will be evacuated. If there are citizens who are left outside, they will be offered shelter, food and the like,” he pointed out.

According to him, the priority is rescuing citizens from the ruins and treating them.
“According to initial assessments, our injured citizens are not currently in danger,” Gul pointed out.
Nearby buildings were also damaged in the explosion.
Gul’s office said that “two neighboring buildings collapsed after the explosion, which is believed to have been caused by natural gas.”

The city government of Istanbul announced that the explosion occurred around 12:00 in a building in the Ayvansaray neighborhood.
